Libby’s Story

Motherhood broke me open and initiated me into a lifelong journey of self-trust, deep listening, inner power, and sovereignty.

Being one of life’s few rites of passage, it has the capacity to do that. But it often doesn’t. All the systems around us try to tell us we don’t know what’s best, try to dissuade us from seeking truths within the original teachers- the water, land, wind, and fire. These systems try to scare us and squash our power, our innate well of wisdom we are all born with.

For so many of us, life is a journey of waking up and reclaiming this inner power and inner knowing, our inspiration from the divine.

I have had three births, all very different. The first was a second trimester pregnancy loss which ended in a fully anesthetized D&E procedure. The second, a planned home birth that ended in a non-emergency hospital transfer resulting in a pitocin-augmented vaginal birth. My third, after a completely “wild pregnancy”, was a very redemptive and powerful unassisted birth in my little island home. All three births have led to immense inner growth and lessons in connecting with my inner power and wisdom. I am grateful for each of them.

I am humbled by all the teachers in this world whom I have had the honor to walk through life with and learn from: mentors, friends, strangers, children, family, death and grief, my own body, my ancestors, creatures big and small, rocks, land, water, wind, and fire. May this learning continue to humble me, daily, until my last breath.

The moment my hormones hit rock bottom was the moment I knew there had to be another way.

In my pursuit of vibrant health and wellness, I had tried just about every diet and lifestyle hack on the internet.

I wanted to finally feel good in my body, and I was willing to try just about anything to get there.

The problem was that most popular health advice is catchy because it is extreme. And these restrictive diets and intense exercise protocols ended up completely depleting my body and hormones.

I was not yet trying to get pregnant, but when my period stopped, that was the red flag that finally snapped me out of my obsession with continuing to search out the next harder, better, faster thing that would finally "fix" me.

I suddenly saw how far out of balance I had fallen and how disconnected I felt from my body (and from myself on a deeper level).

I realized that to restore my fertility and truly find the vibrant health I desired, I needed to tune out the external distractions and tune in to my own body. But how exactly do you do that?

In order to understand my body and interpret its communication through my symptoms, I became certified as a Functional Hormone Specialist, an expert in:

  1. how hormones function in the body

  2. how to identify the root cause of hormonal imbalance

  3. how to support the body back into balance through nutrition and lifestyle practices

Now I could understand why my body and my menstrual cycle were out of balance, but there was still a missing piece... How could I bring all this knowledge together in a way that resonated with me physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually

Honestly, I've never before considered myself a spiritual person. (Although I grew up in Reform Judaism, I was mostly there for the family, friends, and food). But the more I connected with my body through this practice of tuning inwards, the more I felt drawn to find connections between ancestral traditions and my wellness.

Integrating ancient rituals and wisdom of spirituality into my nutrition and lifestyle practices brought a deep level of meaning and coherence to my journey of balancing my hormones. And in turn, brought me closer to my relationship with myself and the world around me.
